---------------------------------------------------

Dear American Academy Parents,

We may be getting close to the end of the school year, but the PTO is still hard at work to finish up the year strong. This is a long post, but it is packed full of info such as Teacher’s Appreciation Week, Field Day, and Muffins with Moms. We are still looking for people interested in volunteering for the PTO Board for the 2021-2022 school year. Please check out the descriptions on our website or reach out to us via email with any questions. Last, we want to thank everyone who participated in our Spring Gala! Your continued support and contribution helps us support our teachers and staff as well as making it possible to have PTO sponsored events. Enjoy this beautiful weather!

Teacher Appreciation Week – May 3rd – May 7th

Wow! It's hard to believe the end of the 2020-21 school year is almost here! What a year this has been. This year, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is May 3rd through the 7th. We want to show them our appreciation for making this a Gold Medal year. They have overcome many obstacles this year & made learning fun for our students. Let's give them a Teacher/Staff Appreciation week to remember!

We want every student to have the opportunity to show their appreciation!  Below we have detailed this process for both in-person and remote learning.

In-person learning

On each teacher's door there will be a sign that says, "Thank you for making this a GOLD medal year!" We would like the students to fill out a sheet that says, "You deserve a GOLD Medal because...". Please have your child complete the sheet for their homeroom teacher and any other teacher they would like (i.e. Ability Group teachers, math teacher, literacy teacher, science/social studies teacher, teachers from previous years, etc.) You can find the sheet on our PTO Website by CLICKING HERE. (PDF is attached at the top.) Please have your child give the sheet to their teacher(s) on Monday, May 3rd. The teachers will display the sheets on the door of their classroom.

Since our specials teachers are GAME CHANGERS for learning success, we would like each student to complete a second "You deserve a GOLD Medal because..." sheet based on the following breakdown:

  • Students with a last name beginning with A - B - C - D - Ewill complete a sheet for Ms. Gallegos (K-5).

  • Students with a last name beginning with F - G - H - I - Jwill complete a sheet for Mr. Murphy (K-5) or Mr. Hand (MS)

  • Students with a last name beginning with K - L - M - N - O will complete a sheet forMs. Ham (K-5) or Ms. Yu (Librarian).

  • Students with a last name beginning with P - Q - R - S - Twill complete a sheet for Ms. Lang (K-5) or Mr. Seaton (MS).

  • Students with a last name beginning withU - V - W - X - Y - Z will complete a sheet for Ms. Van De Weert (K-5).

Your child is welcome to do a sheet for another specials teacher in addition to the one they have been assigned. Please have your child give the sheet to their teacher(s) on Monday, May 3rd.

Let's not pass GO without recognizing our amazing American Academy staff!  Please encourage your child to fill out an "I appreciate you because..." sheet for members of our administration, office staff, instructional assistants team, educational assistants team, custodial staff, etc.

Remote learning

Let's flood our remote teachers' inboxes by saying "Thank you for making this a GOLD medal year!" We would like the remote students to fill out a sheet that says, "You deserve a GOLD Medal because...". Please have your child complete the sheet for their homeroom teacher and any other teacher they would like (i.e. Ability Group teachers, math teacher, literacy teacher, science/social studies teacher, teachers from previous years, etc.) You can find the sheet on our PTO page by CLICKING HERE. Please have your child email the sheet to their teacher(s) on Monday, May 3rd. These will be a fun keepsake for our online teaching staff.

Since our specials teachers are GOLD MEDALISTS for learning success, we would like each student to complete a second "You deserve a GOLD Medal because..." sheet based on the following breakdown:

  • Students with a last name beginning with A - B - C - D - Ewill complete a sheet for Ms. Rusten (K-5) or Mr. Park (MS).

  • Students with a last name beginning with F - G - H - I - Jwill complete a sheet for Ms. Rusten (K-5) or Ms. Hamlin (MS)

  • Students with a last name beginning withU - V - W - X - Y - Z will complete a sheet for Mrs. Rusten (K-5) and Mr. Park (MS).

Your child is welcome to do a sheet for another specials teacher in addition to the one they have been assigned. Please have your child give the sheet to their teacher(s) on Monday, May 3rd.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheons

Our students have the WINNING advantage thanks to the teachers and staff at American Academy, so let's give them a week they will never forget!

As always, thank you for supporting our teachers and staff!

Volunteers

We are THRILLED to be offering an in-person field day this year at Elk Ridge Park!! To make this event happen for our kids, there will be NO spectators allowed. However, we are allowed to have a select number of parent volunteers to be at the event!  It is a way to see your kiddos in action on field day. If you would like to be at field day this year and help the gym teacher(s) run stations for the day, please sign up below.

Middle School Lunch Option

The PTO will be offering a lunch for purchase on field day for Middle School only.
