I wanted to take you inside my Fifth Grade Music class from this past week. We had our first "speed symphony project" (think Cake Wars). On Monday and Tuesday we studied the instrument families in the orchestra and on Wednesday, we listened to Beethoven's "Symphony #3". On Thursday, the students were given instruction and had exactly forty minutes to research important information regarding the composer and this particular symphony, assemble a group, create a poster that was both creative and descriptive. On Friday, we took the entire time to present each project. Each student offered positive critique to each group. Your kids knocked it out of the park!

An important and intriguing fact the kids learned is that Beethoven was deaf. We spent some time discussing our own individual challenges and that we can overcome- creating and achieving amazing things despite our own setbacks.

Enjoy these photos of the finished projects and help me celebrate our 5th Grade students (I've already hung them on the music room wall). All Fifth Grade will be completing this project (various composers) throughout Unit 2.
