Castle Pines

Band at American Academy

NOTE: Due to COVID19 and the complexities that come with the upcoming school year, it pains me to say that band is suspended until further notice. If your child is still interested in starting or continuing their music education on an instrument, I highly recommend utilizing the expertise of a private teacher until we can recommence with band sessions. Please contact me at arusten@aak8.org if you have any further questions.

We have two bands at American Academy:

Rebel Band for 4-5th graders interested in learning flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. We work on rhythm, note reading, tone production, and basics of playing a band instrument while following the Essential Elements Book 1 curriculum. Rebel Band meets during the school day every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:05-4pm and perform in two concerts - one in December and one in May. There is no cost but students will need to have their own instrument and book. Limited School Instruments are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Academy Band is for students in 4-8th grade who have at least 1 year of experience on flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and percussion or who can demonstrate equivalent proficiency. Academy Band meets every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7-8am and perform on various occasions including
assemblies, concerts, and the Elitch Gardens Music Festival in May. Academy Band members are encouraged to provide their own instrument with the exception of some large instruments like Tuba, bass clarinet, tenor sax, baritone, etc.
